DIY Color Correction Gels for Canon 600 EX RT Speedlite
Your creativity is enhanced by the use of artificial lighting which you have control of. Similarly sometimes the ambient light can ruin a beautiful image. For this purpose the pro photographers use the light modifiers and color correction gels to create great images. I made some color correction gels for my new Canon 600 EX RT Speedlite. I purchased these color correction gels in a video supply shop in Delhi.
I got the color correction gel sheets two weeks before the purchase of the Speedlite. But before I could cut and glue them (to make it Speedlite ready) I needed the exact dimensions of my Speedlites. I had to wait for the purchase before I could. For people like me who are awaiting their next purchase of 600 EX RT and want to kill some time by make DIY gels then this post is for you.
Here are the dimensions cut the gel sheets if you don’t have the swatch book available from Rosco or Lee
The dimensions of Speedlite head(the glass portions where the Speedlite tube rests) is about 7cmx4cm.
Providing for 1 cm each side for gluing the Velcro make the total length for the gel to be 9 cm. However If you are using speedtraps like me then you need to provide for some turning radius on both side of the Speedlite. Also if in some cases you want to put one gel over other then you will need some extra length for the gel.So the safest possible length for the gel is at least 10 cm X 4 cm of pieces out of the sheets.
Below are the gels I produces for myself. For me the velvety side of the velcro forms the speedtrap and the toothed forms the attachment glue on the gel.
As of now I have 15 color correction + creative light gels.
Love them, searching for a good pouch to keep them safely.
